Should fire departments in Levy County be consolidated? And merged with EMS?

A Levy County Fire Advisory Board subcommittee is collecting and considering plans to map the future of fire service in the county.

One plan being put forth calls for consolidating all of the fire departments — city and county — into one department and merging that with the county's Emergency Medical Service.

The 10-year plan calls for hiring a director at $80,000 a year with annual $5,000 pay increases for the first nine years. The director would

The plan calls for absorbing Fowlers Bluff, Fanning Springs and Chiefland's fire departments in year 7 of the plan, and Bronson with Williston fire department in year 9. 

The county's EMS would also be merged with the new fire agency.

What do you think of the plan? Is there something else for the fire board to consider in plotting the future of fire and EMS service?
