To be competitive, the Chiefland High girls varsity basketball team needs all of its horses clicking on all cylnders.
Unfortunately, when you're missing some of your horses, it's hard to run at peak performance.
Shorthanded Chiefland hung with visiting Trenton for a while on Tuesday, Dec. 11, but the Lady Tigers eventually wore the Lady Indians down with pressure.
When the final buzzer sounded, Trenton had secured a 53-30 victory.
Chiefland fell to 1-7 while Trenton improved to 6-2.
The Lady Indians played without two starters –guard Renashia Bowers and center Charissa Morris –and reserve forward Chala Hall.
Bowers missed the game for personal reasons. Morris suffered a leg injury and was on crutches. Hall has moved away from the Chiefland area.
The remaining cast tried hard to hang with a talented Trenton bunch.
Chiefland traded baskets with Trenton in the early going, but 12 straight points put the visitors from Gilchrist County up 18-6. Full-court pressure forced numerous turnovers.
