For the person who has almost everything, Chiefland Fire Rescue Department has the perfect gift available instantly for only $10.
A sturdy, reflective 9-1-1 address sign is available for sale at CFR and it can be made within about five minutes, CFR Secretary Debbie Sipf said. Any address can be quickly recorded on the sign, she said.
She makes the signs right at the fire station. The address is on both sides of the sign, she added.
Sipf said the CFR office is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. Money from these sign sales goes into the Volunteer Firefighter Fund, she said.
The signs measure 18 inches long by six inches tall. The numbers are three inches tall. Signs are made from metal, just like Florida Department of Transportation road signs, Sipf said.
The CFR began the reflective sign program about two years, she said, to help firefighters and other emergency personnel find places easily during the day or night. Some places in the Chiefland fire service area are not well lit at night. Emergency personnel must locate some structures at night, and these reflective signs make that task easier, she said.
