Public Safety Expo a success

-A A +A

About 800-1,000 folks came through the gates of Williston Airport on Saturday not to take a trip but to see one of the largest arrays of emergency services equipment and get information on being prepared for hurricanes and emergencies at a Public Safety Expo hosted by the Levy County Department of Public Safety and Department of Emergency Management.
Firefighters, law enforcement officers and rescue workers demonstrated their special skills at extricating people from crushed vehicles, patching them up and even showing off two Careaire helicopters and their crews transport patients.
Dixie County sent its mobile command unit and an ambulance for the display, along with Gilchrist County. Among the departments in Levy County that participated were County fire departments, and fire and police departments from Bronson, Cedar Key, Chiefland, Fanning Springs and Williston.
Just for a touch of realism, a Coast Guard crew that was exhibiting at the expo had to leave for an emergency. Another crew replaced them, only to be called out a short time later.
