Parents and teachers, no, the whole community should be very proud of the young people of Chiefland Middle School. Five young people with the assistance of Dana Davis organized a food drive that amazed and delighted the members of the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Chiefland.
Some weeks, it's a real struggle for us to come up with all of the food needed for the food pantry. Last week the shelves were full.
Davis told me that the young people approached her to be their adult supervisor, and they took it from there. They designed posters and made up flyers and set up a box for donations. The donations overflowed the box. They covered the table and several chairs in our pantry.
We and our clients are so very grateful to all of the students and families who donated, but most especially to Jaylyn Harvey, Ashley Wood, Brooke Ficht, Skylar Cannon and Ryan Thomas who organized the drive and to Davis for agreeing to work with them.
