A poker run is being held this weekend to benefit volunteer firefighters in Bronson.

The AMVETS Riders Chapter 88 in Bronson will be hosting the event that is open to the public on Saturday with kickstands up at 10:30 a.m.

“I think it’s great. I’m glad to see someone in the community going above and beyond to help the volunteer fire department,” Bronson Fire Chief Dennis Russell said in a telephone interview.

The funds raised will go toward furniture for the fire house to make the living arrangements easier, said Riders President Don Clifton.

Russell said they are putting in a new shower and sleeping quarters, which will help them to keep the fire department staffed around the clock.

The poker run, which begins at AMVETS Post 88 in Bronson, has stops planned at most of the AMVETS posts in Levy County and will finish again at Post 88 where they will have food and live music by the band Blind Syde.

Among other community outreach efforts, the group organizes a couple of poker runs a year to benefit different organizations in the community and one to benefit Veterans.
