The Suwannee Valley Players announces the March 1 opening of their spring production of "Little Shop of Horrors", the next production in its 30th season.
"Little Shop of Horrors" is a 1960’s rock musical with lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken. It’s based on the film by Roger Corman.
In the play, Seymour Krelbourn, portrayed by Dalton Pitts-McCallum, is a poor young man working at a run-down flower shop, owned by his “provider”, Mr. Nushnik, played by Terry Wines, and located on skid row.
One day while looking for new and exotic plants he encounters a new undiscovered new plant species. The plant is actually an alien plant, found by Seymour after a total eclipse of the sun. After bringing the plant to the store, he gains fame, fortune, and the love of Audrey, played by Jennifer Saranzek, the beautiful flower shop cashier.
Soon, however, he discovers the plant feeds on human blood. Seymour is faced with a moral dilemma, continue to feed the plant, or face losing the only love he has ever wanted.
This humorous rock musical will be at the Chief Theater March 1-3 and March 7-10. Performances begin at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets can be purchased at Suwannee Valley Internet on North Main Street in downtown Chiefland. Shows are performed at the Chief Theatre, 25 E. Park Ave., Chiefland.
