Pedestrian is county's 11th traffic death in 2013

A pedestrian who died ofas the result of an accident shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday about a mile north of Bronson became Levy County's 11th traffic fatality for 2013, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report ont he accident.

Kaleb Carter, age unknown, was pronounced dead at the accident scene by Levy County Emergency Medical Service personnel. 

Carter was walking northbound in the right lane of U.S. Highway 27A when he was struck by the right front of a 2006 Dodge Charger operated by David Letchworth, 48, of Valrico. The vehicle was also northbound on the road. 

The investigation by FHP Sgt. David Roberts is continuing.

Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum has said patrol deputies are putting an emphasis on traffic safety in their daily work in an effort to curb the deaths which are almost double last year's rate. 

In another accident on Tuesday, at 9:30 p.m. a man was left in critical condition after the riding mower he was operating was struck from behind by another vehicle.

There were no lights on the moxer driven by Samual S. Deloach, 41, of Chiefland, when a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck came down the road in the same direction and swerved left to avoid the mower but the right side of the pickup struck the mover. The impact caused the mower to rotate and overturn. 

Deloach was reported in critical condition after being transported to Shands Hospital at the University of Florida. 

The accident is being investigated by Trooper J. Hoover.
