ST. PETERSBURG— Progress Energy and LEMA Construction & Developers, Inc., a general contractor, will host a vendor fair for local suppliers interested in learning more about potential subcontracting opportunities associated with the construction of a new office building at the Trenton Operations Center.
The vendor fair is today (Thursday) from 10 a.m. to noon at the City of Trenton Community Center, 214 S..E Third Ave., Trenton. Registration is not required. LEMA Construction and Progress Energy personnel will provide a project overview and important information on environmental and safety requirements needed to become pre-qualified to participate in bidding for subcontracts. Progress Energy representatives will be available to discuss the company’s efforts to enhance opportunities for businesses owned by women, veterans and minorities.
The purpose of the vendor fair is to alert local businesses of subcontracting opportunities on the project and how to properly register for the bid phase. Vendors in Gilchrist, Levy, Dixie, Alachua, Lafayette and Suwannee counties are encouraged to attend. Participants will have the opportunity to ask specific questions regarding site services, consumable services, construction materials, construction services and construction equipment. Areas of work that will be subcontracted include site work, electrical, HVAC, painting, plumbing, carpentry, hardware, flooring and other building finishes.
To pre-qualify, each prospective subcontractor should be able to provide information regarding safety procedures and records, insurance, business experience (five-year minimum), financial status and other quality assurance/control measures.
Construction of the 3,200-square-foot office building is scheduled to begin in mid-August and be completed within six months. The new office building will house company support staff.
