One sweet fund raiser

The Chiefland Cheerleading Team held a mid-summer cake auction and the politicians, public officials and community turned out to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Auctioneer Chad Johnson who handled the bidding at the Thursday, July 17, event said 46 items — and some that were donated back to raise money a second and third time — netted nearly $5,000 for the team's expenses.

“For a summertime fund raiser it was very successful,” Johnson said.

Tammy Shipp Gardner, the cheer coach who helped the cheerleaders organize the event, wrote on Facebook:

“I was completely AMAZED and BLOWN AWAY at the love & support displayed tonight by our community! THANK YOU to EVERYONE that helped make the Chiefland Middle High School Cheerleading Cake Auction a huge success! Whether you baked one of the many delicious cakes, helped advertise the event, attended to show your support or purchased a cake, WE APPRECIATE YOU! Special thanks to the CHS Softball Team & Chiefland Fastpitch Boosters for your support! And THANK YOU to the GREATEST auctioneer, Chad “Cracker” Johnson, for volunteering your time & helping make tonight’s event fantastic!”
