A man who was served with a restraining order last week is dead after returning to the home he once shared with a woman and another man and getting into a shootout that left the other man wounded, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Department press release.

John Paul Robinson, 54, who has a criminal record dating back to 1977, according to the Florida Department of Corrections, is dead of a shotgun wound to his upper left shoulder. The other man in the incident is hospitalized with wounds to his lower extremities.

The 911 operator received a call at 3:08 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, from a woman saying there had been a shooting in the home located in the Trenton area of Levy County.

Robinson was served with an Injunction for Protection (restraining order) on Wednesday, Aug. 21, by deputies and was ordered to leave the home at that time.

On Friday, the home was broken into and a shotgun owned by the woman was taken. On Saturday, the male shooting victim reported to deputies that the tires had been slashed on his vehicle.

On Sunday, armed with a sawed off shotgun, Robinson forcibly entered the home through a locked door and encountered the male roommate sleeping on the couch in the living room.

Robinson fired twice at the man hitting him and the man fired back with a shotgun that he had nearby hitting Robinson.

The male victim was transported to a hospital for treatment. He is listed in stable condition.

A source with the sheriff's office said the woman sought the restraining order because of the escalating threat of violence.

Robinson, who was last released from prison in 2009, was sentenced in 2000 on burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief charges. He was sentenced to 18 years in 1977 on a charge of robbery with a gun.

The investigation is continuing.
