Old Year's resolutions from City Hall

It’s been said the only thing that doesn’t change is the fact that everything is always changing, including the City of Chiefland.  So, with the New Year rapidly approaching, let’s take a look at some of the highlights and changes resulting from 2009’s city commission meetings.

In January, city commissioners voted unanimously to renew Chiefland City Manager Grady Hartzog’s employment contract at an annual salary of $70, 968. 85.  Not much change here, but Hartzog did ask that the commission remove from his contract a $400 payment of dues covered by the city to Chiefland Rotary Club.

Mayor Teal Pomeroy, in evaluating Hartzog’s performance, said he had come to value Hartzog’s wisdom.

Later that month, City Hall opened its doors to local skaters to get input on a proposed skate park.

Area skaters, in conjunction with the recreation committee, chose a design by American Ramp Co.  The total cost of the project, built in several phases, was about $135,611.  Lights were also added a few months later, allowing nighttime skating.
