Couple against proposed sewage treatment field

By Mark Scohier, Staff writer

A Chiefland area couple isn’t happy about the proposed location of a new city sludge field.

And that’s because they say they’ll be able to see it and, perhaps more importantly, smell it from their front porch.

Earl and Carolyn Lane own property just a stone’s throw away from the pastureland city officials are hoping to include in Chiefland’s rotation of fields it uses to further process and break down dry wastes from the city’s sewage plant. The city, just in having the field “engineered,” has spent about $3,000.
