A Murphy Oil USA spokesman has confirmed that the fuel discounter is building a convenience store and gas station on a 1.12-acre site on U.S. Highway 19/27A and Northwest 21st Avenue in Chiefland.

"We're excited to be building in that part of Florida," Angelos Lambis, a spokesman at the El Dorado, Ark., headquarters of the corporation, said. The company paid $725,000 for the site and will spend $831,672 on construction.

He said the station will open early next year — possibly January. He said the station will sell unleaded regular and premium gasoline and diesel fuel.

Job applicants can go to the company's website http://murphyusa.com in about a month and apply, Lambis said.

He said the company also contributes to the communities in which its stations are located through Team Murphy USA. He said sponsorships for youth sports will be available through www.teammurphyusa.com.
