A conditional special exception permit for a proposed limerock mine in the Montbrook community that has been hotly contested by residents will be considered in a public hearing on Aug. 18 at 6:30 p.m. by the Levy County Commission.
The mine permit application by Johannes Vanderwey calls for the operation to be done near the intersection of U.S. Highway 41 and County Road 322 in Montbrook community on an 88.18 acre site. The plans call for major mining, including blasting and crushing, on 68.8 acres for the next 20 years.
