A search ended happily Saturday when two girls, one age 4 and the other 8 years old, were found safe shortly after 9 p.m. after being missing for more than an hour from a camp site in Manatee Springs State Park.
Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas confirmed a search was under way for the children. He said the children followed the deer out of the camping area.
Reports say search and rescue teams from Cross City and Lancaster Corrections Institutes joined in the effort with law enforcement.
Also, a Levy County EMS unit going to the park collided with a deer. County Public Safety Director David Knowles said the EMS worker was not hurt in the accident, but the vehicle had some damage.
