The Florida Department of Environmental Protection’s Manatee Springs State Park, along with The Friends of Manatee/Fanning Springs Parks, Inc. will host the Suwannee River clean-up effort in support of the 16th Annual National Public Lands Day on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009.
Visitors may use their own canoes and/or kayaks or Suwannee Guides and Outfitters will offer 15 free canoe and kayak rentals. Advance registration is required to reserve canoes/kayaks. Participants are advised to bring drinking water, sunscreen, bug repellant, cutting pliers (for fishing lines), hats and gloves.
The Friends of Manatee/Fanning Springs Parks, Inc. will provide a hot dog lunch at the Manatee Springs Concession after the clean up to the first 50 registered participants. A return trip to Clay Landing to collect participants’ vehicles will be provided by Suwannee Guides & Outfitters. The day’s activities will include:
8:00 – 8:30 a.m. Pre-assembly at Clay Landing
10:00 a.m. Last canoe out of Clay Landing
12:00 p.m. Last canoe into Manatee Springs
1:00 p.m. Post Clean-up Assembly at Manatee Springs Amphitheatre
2:00 p.m. Last return trip to Clay Landing to collect vehicles
