A man was arrested Monday after kicking in the front door and illegally entering a Chiefland house, police said.
In a Monday night interview, Police Chief Robert Douglas said 24-year-old Tristan Vashuan Stokes, Chiefland, was arrested in connection with a home-invasion burglary at the home of Cindy Reyes at 25 S.E. 4th St.
According to Douglas, Reyes' 15-year-old daughter Sabrina was the only one home when the incident occurred earlier that day
"I was in my room when I heard a bang on the door...he was in the house," Sabrina said later in a phone interview.
Sabrina said she confronted the intruder, who was unarmed and whom she recognized as having once been her older sister's friend. In fact, she said, the man claimed to be waiting for her sister. But Sabrina told him he had to go, and he quickly made his way out the back door.
A few hours later, as Sabrina became more and more worried, she called her aunt, who promptly called police.
Despite a crumpled door, no one was hurt, and Douglas said they picked up Stokes wandering at a nearby car dealership at about 5:30 p.m. Sabrina later identified Stokes from a photo line-up, Douglas said.
Douglas alleges that Stokes admitted to the attempted burglary when questioned by police and said it was to pay for drugs.
