A tourist from Brunswick, Ga., died on July 8 after he went out on the swing overhanging the Suwannee River at Bob’s River Place and did not surface.

Grant Hatchett, 21, had visited the spot previously, but it was his first time in 2014, according to a Dixie County Sheriff's Office press release. Witnesses said Hachett has used the swing earlier in the day. Witnesses said that the last time Hatchett went out of the swing, he appeared to hit the water at an awkward angle and never surfaced after entering the water.

The Dixie County Sheriff’s deputies, Dixie County EMS, Dixie County Sheriff’s Marine Unit and Emergency Services Dive Team, and the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Dive Team responded to the call as well a the Dixie EMS Dive Team, Dixie County Fire Rescue and the Florida Wildlife Commission.

Hatchett’s body was recovered from the river bottom by the divers at 2:40 p.m. and he was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office in Gainesville for an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
