Man dies while cast fishing

A Newberry man casting for fish in the Suwannee died after becoming entangled in the cast net he was using off a dock.
The Dixie County Sheriff's Office said the family of Chad Eric Holder, 36, reported finding his body in a canal behind their residence on Saturday, Oct. 14.
Holder and some of the family were staying at the home on Friday night when he left to cast-net. When they looked for him later he wasn’t outside, and they assumed he walked to town as he had done on previous occasions.  The family told deputies on Saturday morning they looked for Holder and had no idea where he had gone.  It wasn’t until the tide went out that they discovered Holder entangled in the cast net and rope that was attached to the net and tied to the dock.
The preliminary investigation appears as though Holder possibly lost his balance and fell into the water as he was attempting to cast, according to the Sheriff's Office press release. An autopsy was performed at the 8th District Medical Examiner’s Office in Gainesville and the results are pending at this time.
