One man was killed and another seriously injured Monday morning when a tire came off a vehicle traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 41, went airborne topped a 6-foot chain link fence and struck Ivan J. Sandquist, 33, of Williston, killing him instantly.
Williston Police Chief Dennis Strow said the accident occurred a little after 9 a.m. at Absolute Auto Body on N.W. 10th Ave.
James E. Fender, 45, of Williston also sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to Shands Hospital in Gainesville.
Williston Police officers were assisted at the scene by the Levy County Sheriff’s Office crime scene unit and the Florida Highway Patrol. The investigation into the accident continues as officers sift through physical evidence at the scene.
