Lost keys find suspect in theft

A Williston man's lost key chain that was found near a Northeast 10th Street home on Feb. 8 has led to his arrest for a break-in at the home, according to a Levy County Sheriff's Office press release.

Steven A. Crosby, 46, was arrested on Feb. 18 and charged with burglary of a dwelling and grand theft by Det. Sgt. Mike Narayan. His bond is $105,000.

The homeowner reported someone had tossed a brick through a window to gain entry to the house and took approximately $425 in personal property.

A set of keys, with a Gainesville Health and Fitness tag and wireless key fob attached, were found near the fence line of the property. Narayan was able to identify the owner of the keys,as Steven Crosby with the assistance of staff at health center staff.

Upon contacting Crosby, Sgt. Narayan confirmed that the wireless key fob did lock and unlock Crosby's vehicle. In an interview Crosby confessed to committing the burglary and Narayan was able to recover and return most of the stolen property to its owner.
