Consecutive losses to end the season disappointed, but how 2011 played out impressed Chiefland softball coach Ginger Fuller.

The Lady Indians (19-7 overall) took P.K. Yonge 10 innings before losing 4-3 in the District 5, Class 2A tournament final. They then suffered a 3-0 loss at Jacksonville Providence in the first round of regionals.

“We wanted those games bad,“ Fuller said. “We practiced to have a good record, but we set our entire season up for those games, because we knew that was what it was going to come down to. The end result from the season didn’t reflect what they had put into it the whole year.”

Specifically, Fuller pointed to a 10-game win streak leading into the district finals. That included wins against fastpitch powerhouses Suwannee, Santa Fe and Williston. Fuller said the coaching staff spent the entire season telling players they weren’t living up to their potential, but said this group answered by “living up to their potential and beyond” with wins against three 3A schools in a row.
