The Levy Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) hosted their annual Speaking Contest on Tuesday, March 6, with the topic from Association of Florida Conservation Districts “Should Food Crops be used for Fuel?” That was the question posed to students in grades 6 – 12. The contest took place in Bronson at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall. Levy Soil and Water Conservation District, (LSWD), Board member Aaron Lane welcomed guests, teachers, speakers and their families. LSWD board member Wilbur Dean introduced the contestants prior to speaking and later presented the winners as follows: First place in the Senior Division was Kira Telgen from Chiefland High School and first place in the Junior Division was Colton Langford from Chiefland Middle School. Telgen will continue onto the Association of Florida Conservation Districts Area II competition on May 10, in Jacksonville. Congratulations to Telgen and Langford on a job well done.
