BRONSON - Among the many requests made Nov. 13 of five members of the Florida Legislature was a request for about $5.2 million worth of repairs on three bridges on Cedar Key.
Levy County Road Administrator Bruce Greenlee asked Rep. Will Kendrick (R-Carrabelle), Sen. Charlie Dean (R-Inverness), Sen. Steve Oelrich (R-Gainesville), State Rep. Ron Schultz (R-Homosassa) and Rep. Larry Cretul (R-Ocala) for state aid with the bridges.
The three bridges that are listed as being critically deficient are one on C Street, with an estimated repair cost of $2.5 million, and two on Gulf Boulevard, one at $1.2 million and one at $1.5 million.
Greenlee said he has made this request during the past four years and has seen no help from the Florida Department of Transportation in this regard.
Levy County Commissioner Lilly Rooks told the legislators these bridges are the only means for fire trucks, ambulances and other vehicles to reach certain parts of the island. These bridges are required for evacuations by some island residents and visitors as well, she added.
