Letter: Tax Collector Office staff did great job under lot of stress

I would like to thank the dedicated employees at the Levy County Tax and Tag Offices for their wonderful handling of the mob of residents who appeared at their offices on Friday, Aug. 28 and Monday, Aug. 31. With notices on TV and in the paper of doubling the cost for licenses and tags as of Sept. 1, it appeared that all of Levy County residents showed up to renew their tags and/or licenses before the deadline.

The county employees were so efficient and pleasant. They had to work through their lunch hour by grabbing a bite at their desks as they handled each customer by number. They tried to provide as many chairs as available for waiting customers, and all were consistently polite and helpful to each resident. We were at the Chiefland office but heard from others in line that the situation was the same at most of the other offices in the county. Overall, the residents were pretty patient while waiting an hour or more in line.

Even with the frustration of computer overloads and waiting for the system to reboot, the employees remained calm and helpful by issuing rain checks to some residents. Having lived in South Florida where you arrived early to get a low number or called an appointment and still had to wait hours to renew your tag, we are very fortunate to have such wonderful employees in our county offices.

Thanks and kudos to you all.
