Some time ago while mowing a vacant lot on the south east side of Chiefland I observed a brown medium sized dog chained up under some trees next door.
After looking closer I realized this animal had no shelter from the weather.
I contacted the Humane Society of Levy County who informed me they had no responsibility for the City of Chiefland. I then contacted the appropriate people in Chiefland who informed me there was no requirement for the shelter of animals.
Why do some people have the Michael Vick attitude that it’s my animal and I will treat it as I wish? Why don’t the City fathers write better ordinances pertaining to the humane treatment of animals? Why don’t the good citizens of Chiefland encourage better ordinances pertaining to the treatment of animals so that violators can be dealt with?
I am not a resident of Chiefland but my heart goes out to mistreated animals wherever they are.
