The Chiefland Women's Golf Association finished its third and final round of the Championship Tournament on Feb. 9. The association began in 1974 and the champion that year was Orine Goan. The trophy plaque is hanging in the honor gallery at the Chiefland Golf and Country Club, which opened that year.

Arma Beauchamp was the first president of the association and is still a playing member. She won the championship three times in the early years of its existence.  Thanks for all her hard work during the last 37 years.

Going into the third and final round of this year's competition, there were only two strokes difference in the scores of the top two contenders.  Linda Buchanan began with a score of 86, 90 for a total of 176. Marilee Leonard began with an score of 93, 85 for a total two round score of 178.

Buchanan shot a 41 on the front nine of the final round and Leonard came in with a score of 38, which included two chip-in birdies that put her ahead by a stroke when making the turn. They finished the final nine holes with Buchanan shooting a total score of 87 that gave her the runner-up spot and Leonard coming in with a total score of 82 to win.

Leonard wins her own parking spot and a prize at the awards banquet on May 18, which is the last play day of the season that started in September. Leonard’s name will be added to the Champions Plaque at the golf course.

Lorraine Nickolls was the winner of the 2nd Flight in the tournament. She shot a three-round total of 270. Jeannie Clark was runner-up with a 288. Both had chip-ins during the final round.
