BRONSON - Going into his eighth year of service as a Florida House of Representatives member, Rep. Will Kendrick (R-Carrabelle) participated in his last Legislative Delegation hearing in Levy County on Nov. 13.
Joining him were Sen. Charlie Dean (R-Inverness), Sen. Steve Oelrich (R-Gainesville), State Rep. Ron Schultz (R-Homosassa) and Rep. Larry Cretul (R-Ocala).
Among the issues presented to the five men were $36.3 million worth of requests.
Oelrich said the job of state legislators is a question of balance.
On one side of the scales, there is the weight of requests for aid in establishing water service, sewer service, bridge repairs and addressing the creation of laws for better prosecution of election fraud. Countering the requests is a plea from taxpayers for reduced taxes or at least some stability in the amount of increases.
Fanning Springs City Commission Chairman Whitney "Stoney" Smith asked the state for help with a $12 million regional water system to serve Chiefland, Fanning Springs and Trenton.
