CORRECTION: To clarify that Scott was relieved of coaching girls basketball and remains as coach in football.
Jennifer Langston has been named the new Chiefland High varsity and junior varsity head basketball coach. Langston, a 1990 CHS graduate, replaces Carlton Scott, who was relieved of coaching girls basketball for undisclosed reasons after being named the head coach in late August. Scott continues to coach football.
“We know (Langston) really well and she really great with the kids,” said CHS Vice Principal Matt McClelland. “She’s very professional and brings a lot of knowledge and stability to the program.”
Langston’s professionalism likely comes from a long career in law enforcement, which she took an “early retirment” from in 2009 to finish her bachelor’s degree in education at Saint Leo College. She played three sports - basketball, softball and basketball — at Chiefland and her father, Bobby McCallum, coached the varsity boys teams in the 1980s. She went on to play college volleyball at Manatee Community College in Braddenton.
