Coming off a whipping by Williston, Wayne Weatherford wanted to see improvement from his Chiefland High varsity softball team in last Friday night's home game against Trenton.
Weatherford was at least temporarlily able to smile following the Lady Indians 10-6 non-district victory over the Lady Tigers.
Chiefland, in the midst of a rebuilding year, improved its record to 2-2.
The Lady Indians built an 8-0 lead and coasted home.
Winning pitcher Brittany Davis allowed four hits and she fanned six.
A five-run second inning gave her a pad to work with. Brooke Williams, Amie Biehl and Rebekka Wilkerson had RBI singles and while two more came round on errors.
Biehl, the Lady Indians sophomore shortstop, finished 4-for-4 at the plate. Lyndsie Stalvey, Hagen Lewis, Wilkerson and Williams had two hits each.
CHIEFLAND 9, HAMILTON COUNTY 7 –The Lady Indians improved their record to 3-2 with this victory over visiting Hamilton County on Monday night, Feb. 25. It was a make-up from the rained out Feb. 21 game.
It went back and forth with Chiefland finally punching across the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Hagen Lewis had a two-run double to break a 7-7 tie.
The Lady Indians had 11 hits but committed five errors.
Winning pitcher Brittany Davis had a double and single. Lyndsie Stalvey was 2-for-3. Amie Biehl and Cassie Labat had triples. Amye Grieves also had a double. Janessa Barrios playe centerfield for the injured Brittany Arrington and had a single.
Davis allowed nine hits and struck out three.
Chiefland played host to powerhouse P.K. Yonge on Tuesday, Feb. 26, and is at home against Williston on March 4.
