With the Chiefland High varsity basketball players serving suspension time after the previous night's fight against Fort White, coach Mark Lundy had to go down on the farm for Friday night's home game against Dixie County.
The junior varsity players saved the day, going up against a strong Bear squad.
Dixie came into the contest with a record of 10-3, while the Chiefland JVs were just 1-11 at their level.
To no one's surprise, the Bears won, but the JV players bounced up to varsity played hard and represented CHS well.
The final score was 74-28.
The first half was a thrill for the JVs turned varsity, as the score was 45-21 at intermission.
"That's the best they've played this season," Lundy said. "I'm proud of them."
The second half saw a running clock come into play, hence, less scoring opportunities for Chiefland.
Take a bow Jamantye Thompson, L.D. Fisher, J.T. Baumann, Marquis Green, Vincent Days, Calvert Brown, Jakarr White, Donnell Sanders, Shannon Wilson, Trent Perryman and Josh McClellan.
They saved the athletic department a hefty forfeit fee.
