JV baseball off to great start

Staff Report

Despite losing its first game of the season at P.K. Yonge on Wednesday, March 5, the Chiefland High junior varsity baseball team is putting together a pretty impressive season.

The 9-3 loss to P.K. dropped the Indian JVs record to 7-1-1.

The pitching has been strin with Jacob Reidy, Bo Beauchamp and Marquis Green turning in impressive performances on the hill.

Green also plays left field and is the team's leadoff hitter. He has hit a home run this year.

Reidy also plays third base and first base. Beauchamp plays first base.

Jamie Deas is the centerfielder. Jakarr White is in right field.

The rest of the infield has John Williams at third base, Josh Martinez at shortstop and Parrish Parnell at second base. Parnell can also catch.

The starting catcher is Shannon Wilson.

Garrett Schmidt is a utility player.

Coaching the junior varsity this year is Kyle Parnell, who also is the head varsity coach.

Parnell admits its time-consuming doing both. He is looking for a full time JV coach for next year.

There are benefits, however, as he is able to keep on top of the talent that will be eventually be comoing up to varsity.

The junior varsity's next game is at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at home against Fort White. The JVs will play Branford at 4 p.m. Friday.
