Jake Rush challenges Yoho in GOP primary

-A A +A

Jake Rush, Alachua County-based congressional candidate, kicked off his Republican primary challenge to unseat one term incumbent Ted Yoho in Florida’s 3rd congressional district this week with a stop in Chiefland during a two-day barnstorming tour of the district.

“Conservative voters in North Central Florida are tired of being disappointed and embarrassed by their Congressman,” said Jake Rush kicking off his campaign.

“As an Alachua County Sheriff’s deputy and attorney who practices constitutional and federal law, I have seen firsthand the overreaching authority of our government and the need to stand strong against it,” said Rush.

“There is a problem in America, and it ain’t you, the voters.  It’s not you, it’s not me, but it’s Ted Yoho and every promise he broke, every misguided vote he’s cast, and every ridiculous thing he’s said.  There’s a problem and it’s Ted Yoho,” Rush said in an announcement emailed last week.

The Jake Rush for Congress campaign is kicking off the campaign with a two-day, old fashioned, barn-storming tour of the district. On Monday, he announced his candidacy at On Top of the World in Marion County, Veterans Park in Alachua County and Orange Park in Clay County.

On Tuesday, he made announcements in Lake City, Jasper, Live Oak, Branford, Bell, Trenton, Chiefland, Bronson, and Newberry.

“This campaign is not going to get outworked. Jake Rush has a strong, conservative message, and our research and experience shows us that when the voters are simply made aware of incumbent Yoho’s activities in Washington, they abandon him in droves,” said Alex Patton, the campaign general consultant.

The Republican primary will be decided by voters on Aug. 26, and the campaign is expected to be intense.

Rush is a former Alachua County Sheriff Deputy and a practicing attorney. Rush and his father, Alachua attorney Robert Rush, successfully defended the first “Stand your Ground” case in North Central Florida.  Since 2010, the candidate has served on the Board of Governors for The Florida Bar, Young Lawyers Division, as the representative for the Eighth Judicial Circuit.  There he has served as chair and co-chair of various committees including Public Interest Law.

He is a lifelong conservative Republican and known as an honest, straight shooter in the law enforcement and legal communities.  Learn more about Jake on the campaign’s website www.JakeRushforCongress.com.

The 3rd Congressional district comprises a large section of northernmost Florida, including the entire counties of Bradford, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, Hamilton, Lafayette, Levy, Suwannee and Union, along with the majority of Alachua and Clay counties, half of Madison county, and a section of Marion county.

The incumbent Ted Yoho is a first-term Republican elected by a margin of 875 votes in the 2012 four-way Republican primary that saw 24-year Congressman Cliff Stearns unseated when he chose to run in the newly redistricted 3rd.
