James Corbin knows exactly how long it’s been since Chiefland last beat Williston in football. It was in October 2002 when the Indians won 20-18 at home. Corbin, like the rest of his team mates, was in elementary school. His head coach was playing football for Oklahoma Panhandle State University. No one had heard of iPods, youtube or Facebook.
In short, it was a long time ago.
Ten years after its last win, CHS has perhaps its best shot at beating its long-time nemesis. The Indians (4-2) are in the midst of one of their best seasons of the last decade while the Red Devils (2-4) are struggling through one of their worst.
“Williston is that team that no matter what sport, it seems they have the upper hand,” Corbin said. “To beat Williston is like winning a district championship simply because we haven’t done it in a long time.”
A win would give Chiefland its first-ever name plate on the Levy County Cup. The Red Devils have secured the trophy for each of its six years of existence.
