The Chiefland First Pitch Tournament brought three local schools together for preseason action last week, giving coaches a chance to look at the new rosters in game situations.
Chiefland High coach Kyle Parnell liked what he saw, as the Indians rolled to a pair of victories.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, Chiefland belted Bronson, 11-0. Then on Friday, Feb. 8, the Indians recorded a 9-1 victory over Trenton.
Against Bronson, three pitchers combined for a no-hitter. Ory Pitts threw the first two innings. Jeremy Hayes then went two. Adam Burton mopped up with an inning of work.
Kory Hanchar was 3-for-4 with a double and two singles. Brent Slaughter banged a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Kyle Shivers also had a double.
The Indians'game against Trenton was played in front of a big crowd Friday night.
The first few innings were tight, but Chiefland was able to break the game open with a six-run fifth inning.
Chiefland tallied single runs in the first and second frames, but Trenton closed to within 2-1 with a run in the third.
The Indians got another run in its half to make it 3-1.
