The Newberry High School varsity football team defeated Chiefland 16-7 in the teams' game Friday night. Chiefland (4-2) dropped the home game to its district rival and also fell to 0-2 in the district.

Newberry (4-2, 1-0 in district 1A-7) dominated the second half on the ground. The Panthers picked up four first downs on third-down conversions and allowed the Indians only one possession in the fourth quarter. Chiefland executed only five total offensive plays in the second half.

The Indians have a bye next week before traveling to Williston on Oct. 19 for the Levy County Cup.
