OCALA -When opportunity comes knocking at the door, someone better be there to answer.
The Chiefland High football team had two golden chances to take it to Trinity Catholic early in last Friday night's key Class 2B District 4 game, but the Indians failed to cash in.
The Celtics ?more precisely running back Derrick Dempsey ? took the ball and ran with it, rolling to a 37-13 victory.
Dempsey, a 5-foot, 8-inch dynamo transfer from The Villages, seemed impossible to tackle, running for more than 200 yards and three touchdowns.
It was Chiefland's third straight loss. The Indians are 2-5 overall and 0-2 in district.
Trinity Catholic, last year's state runnerup in 2B, improved to 4-3 and 2-1.
Chiefland still has a chance to sneak into the playoffs, but the odds are long. The Indians must win their final two district games against P.K. Yonge and Union County. Newberry must defeat Trinity and lose to P.K.
That would leave a three-way tie for second place between Chiefland, P.K. and Trinity.
A Kansas tiebreaker would break that logjam.
Back to last Friday night in Ocala and missed opportunities ...
