Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas, left, presented CPD Officer Alton Horne, center, with a certificate in recognition of Horne's part in a recent investigation that helped break up a fraudulent check cashing scheme.
Horne said the case started out simple enough but soon began leading him to an extensive fraudulent check operation as far away as Alachua County. Fifteen arrests were made in the operation that, all together, had passed off more than $100,000 in bad checks.
CPD Maj. Al Graves, right, said Horne is the epitome of what a CPD officer should be. "If there was a picture next to the definition of police officer, it would be Officer Horne," he said.
