If the cost of adopting a pet from Levy County Animal Services has kept you from finding that perfect companion, has the county got a deal for you.
The shelter will have animals available for adoption at a discount at an event on Saturday, July 12, at Tractor Supply in Chiefland, said County Animal Services Director David Weatherford.
The Levy County Commission approved lowering the fee by $20 to $50 for male and $85 for female animals. The difference in fees is because neutering a male costs less than spaying a female animal.
Of course, Commission Chair Ryan Bell of Chiefland (R-District 4) put his own spin on the differential saying, “Well they're a little more harder to handle.” Bell, who is known for having an animal menagerie that includes dogs, cats, chickens, ducks and goats, brought the room to laughter.
