Bronson senior Elizabeth Gay didn't win, didn't PR, but she did fulfill a major goal she set for herself.

“She wanted to go to the state meet this year and compete, and she did it,” said Bronson track and field head coach Greg Hamilton.

Gay, who is in only her second year throwing the shot put, improved from a 26'02” non-qualifier in the regional meet last year to a legitimate contender who placed second in the regional this year with a best of 32'10”. Gay placed seventh in the shot put final at the state meet at Winter Park last week with a good but not best throw of 31'04.75”, qualifying for a medal.

“She stood on the medal stand and received a medallion, and her mother got to travel down to the meet and see her compete,” Hamilton said.

“It was a real good day.”

Hamilton was very proud that Bronson had four relay teams and five individuals qualify for the regional meet this year.

“We had a really good season,” he said.

“I think it's something we can build on.”
