The Chiefland Middle School softball team was living on the edge last Thursday.

The unbeaten Lady Braves trailed winless Fort White by two runs entering the bottom of the seventh inning.

Thanks to Taylore Fuller, there was a happy ending for CMS, as her bases-loaded triple was the difference in a 10-9 victory.

The Lady Braves improved their record to 7-0.

Chiefland sailed along with a 5-1 lead through four innings. Then all of a sudden, the Lady Braves suffered through their worst inning of the season. Usually steady pitcher Shelby Beauchamp got inexplicably wild, and a plethora of errors behind her didn't help. By the time the madness ended, Fort White had scored eight times to shockingly take a 9-5 lead.

Relief pitcher Mychayla Franklin came in and shut out Fort White the rest of the way.

The Lady Braves got two runs back in the sixth as Kierra Jenkins doubled home a pair.

Then it came down to Fuller's heroics in the seventh.

CMS traveled to Fort White for a rematch on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Lady Indians travel to Bradford for a doubleheader.

The Lady Indians have gotten strong pitching from Beauchamp all season. Franklin has done a good job backing her up. Another pitcher on the team is Kelsi Alexander. Beauchamp can also play first base, while Franklin can play the hit corner.

The infield has Fuller at shortstop, Shelby Prevatt at third, Brittany Gilliam at second and Haley Andrews at first. Catching is Hayden Williams. The outfield has Caitlan Fuller, Hailey Gerhard and Lyndsay Johnson.

Rounding out the squad are Krissy Summers (utility) and Halie Hammond (third Base).
