Chiefland City Commissioners sought public input on how to use the octagon-shaped building, which currently sits near the Chiefland Fire Rescue station.
Grace Andersen, treasurer of the Friends of Luther Callaway Public Library, said this group has an idea. The Friends sell books to raise money for the library, Andersen said. For instance, during the failed 2007 Chiefland Watermelon Festival, even though it was rained out, there were 10 people who showed up to buy books at the library. The Friends made $192 for the Luther Callaway Public Library that day, she said.
Money raised by this support group goes back to the library. The Friends have bought a few chairs, a cart and some other things to help the library in the past. The group bought seven Florida-oriented books during the past two months, she said.
The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library don't need the octagon building exclusively for themselves, she added. The organization would be happy to let other groups use if for meetings.
It seems like a good place for ongoing book sales, Andersen said.
