The Lower Suwannee National Wildlife Refuge hosts a free Youth Hunt Dec. 11 and 12 this year. Youth hunters 15 and younger can have their parent or a hunting mentor call the Lower Suwannee NWR to reserve one of the 100 permits.
Girls and boys are introduced to the hunting culture each year during this free refuge hunt. Young hunters come from counties throughout north and central Florida. Each youth hunter must be accompanied by a mentor to coach them in ethical hunting and safety. The youth must carry the gun and is the only legal hunter on those dates.
