David Allen Christopher, 57, of Inglis, who failed in his attempt to set a woman on fire, but did succeed  in setting furniture in their home on fire in June, has been sentenced on a second degree arson charge to 180 days in the Levy County Jail with credit for 149 days served and three years probation.

The sentence was handed down by Eighth Judicial Circuit Judge Mary Day Coker, who also sentenced Christopher to pay a civil judgment, jail fund, probation cost and $10,000 in restitution.

He was originally arrested by Levy County Sheriff's deputies on charges of attempted first degree murder and arson. Christopher was accused of coming home intoxicated and arguing with his girlfriend before pouring rubbing alcohol on her and trying to light her on fire. When he failed to do so, he went into the bedroom where he set a mattress on fire while his girlfriend hid in a bathroom. He then left the home, locking the door in an attempt to keep her inside. She was able to escape using a key Christopher left in the door.
