Excitement is building as time draws near for the 21st annual Festival of Lights and Christmas Boat Parade. Fort Fanning Park will come alive on Saturday, Dec. 12, with many types of art and crafts on display and a wide variety of foods to choose from Santa Claus is busy getting ready for all the children to visit him, receive a toy and have their pictures taken with him too.
We will start the days’ entertainment with a performance by the Chiefland D & D Dance Studio. These young people will delight you with their routine. Bruce the Juggler/Unicyclist will perform his many tricks and will need some help from some of the bystanders to the delight of the children close by! We have several band groups performing as well. The Rick Gordon Band, Mercy Mountain Boys, Foggy Creek Band and Dotti and the Slackers will keep you humming all day. The Fanning Springs Praise Band from the Fanning Springs Community Church will be helping out and hold a sing-a-long of Christmas Carols along the river bank prior to the Boat Parade getting underway.
There will be free face painting, elephant or pony rides to the first 100 children of the day. There will also be other games to keep the younger ones entertained as well. Make sure you get your tickets for a chance to win some nice prizes donated by our local merchants. These tickets are drawn every hour and announced on stage. Also purchase your raffle tickets for a beautiful hand carved wooden bench, Ibanex guitar, wooden rocking chair, stereo radio and Christmas cookie jar/salt & pepper shaker. Tickets will be available at the Chamber tent. The winners of the raffle items will be announced at 4:00 o’clock.
The Tri County CFGC will have a wide variety of classic cars on display from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. These beauties are the pride and joy of the owners Of course you would not know that unless you can watch them as they proudly show them off!
Don’t forget to get your Yellow Rubber Ducks lined up for the Ducky Race at 3:30 on the Suwannee River. The first three winners win a nice cash prize and a trophy. The Suwannee River boat Club will have them available at their booth.
Boaters get your friends together and decorate your boat and get into the Christmas Boat Parade which gets underway at 6:30. There are cash prizes, gift certificates and trophies for the participants. The awards presentation will be held at the Suwannee Gables Motel at the end of the parade. The boats will tie up at the docks and come ashore for some nice refreshments and awards.
