FANNING SPRINGS - Rose Fagler, community relations manager with Progress Energy Florida, gave the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce an update on the two potential nuclear power generators, which may be proposed for building in southern Levy County.
Fagler was the keynote speaker at the annual banquet on Feb. 12, held in the Lighthouse Restaurant. She spoke about the future electric transmission lines going south from Levy County through nine other counties. Those power lines must be in place when the generators begin producing electricity.
Fagler also answered a question about clearing land underneath some existing transmission lines.
In regard to the possible future nuclear power plants, Fagler said the earliest date when construction can begin would be 2012. The first generator could start producing electricity in 2016 and the second would become active in 2017 under the current timeline, she said.
