About 40 people attended last week’s Annual Banquet of the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce – the highlight of which was most notably the recognition of its Business Longevity Award.
Outgoing Chamber President, Becky Sanford, presented the award to Joe Mercer, owner and operator of Suwannee River Brake & Tire. Mercer, who opened his business in 1978, was recognized as being the longest continuous, original business owner in Fanning Springs.
“Businesses have come and businesses have gone – and Joe is still here,” Sanford said during her presentation.
Others recognized that evening include:
Business of the Year: Chomper’s Diner for its efforts in supply 200 Thanksgiving meals to the needy.
Life Time Achievement Award: Roger and Becky Sanford for their involvement with the Chamber over the years.
Volunteers of the Year: Vince and Pat Arcadia (Toys for Tots) and Herb and Angie Clark.
Volunteer Organization of the Year: Suwannee River Cruiser Boat Club for its participation in the annual Festival of Lights Boat Parade.
And Certificates of Appreciation were given to: Elvin and June Ladewig; Tri-County Cruisers Car Club (Ron Tucker); Jay and Jane Durching of the Fanning Springs Ice Co.; Dennis and Sandra Sweeny; and Point of View (Renate and George Smith).
