The 2007 Chiefland High softball team had quite a few standout players in a memorable season that saw the Lady Indians make it to the state "Final Four."
One of them was catcher Whitney Mills, who excelled offensively and defensively.
At first, Mills was content to call it a career and concentrate on her studies at Santa Fe Community College. But with a little urging from Lady Saints coach Ahern, Mills decided to go out for the team.
Not only did she make the squad, but coach gave her a scholarship.
Mills is the only Lady Indian senior from last year's team playing college ball.
Mills has had a limited role with the Lady Saints so far, but she?ll be ready to pounce on playing opportunitues as the second half of the season kicks into gear.
Mills has appeared behind the plate, at shortstop, first base and right field.
Cracking the lineup to be a starter on SFCC is indeed tough. The Lady Saints are the top JUCO team in Florida and are ranked No. 13 in the country.
As of last week, Santa Fe had a record of 22-2-1.
