Special to the Citizen
Levy County native and Sheriff's Maj. Evan Sullivan announced he is running for sheriff as a Republican in the 2012 election.
The fourth generation law enforcement officer said he is running because, “I was born and raised in Levy County, and my family has served our community for decades. It would be a great honor for me to serve my fellow citizens as sheriff.”
Sullivan’s career in law enforcement extends over two decades. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, and has served in nearly every position in law enforcement including patrol, investigations, SWAT team, K-9, honor guard, drug task force, public information and professional standards.
“I’ve been working for years to prevent and solve crimes right here in Levy County," he said. "Our community must continue to be a safe place to work and raise a family.”
Sullivan is director of law enforcement for the sheriff’s office. “I have diverse experience in law enforcement. I’ve managed hundreds of employees during my career, developed and oversaw multi-million dollar budgets, and worked with our county commission and other government agencies. My roots run deep in Levy County and so does my passion for protecting our families. We must continue to reduce crime in order to maintain the high quality of life our citizens deserve,” explained Sullivan.
Sullivan said he could streamline the Levy County Sheriff’s Office in order to make the office more effective, efficient and responsive. “I will be frugal with taxpayer’s money, continue and build upon community outreach efforts, and strive to reduce our crime rates. No one will work harder for Levy County.”
